Black Out Proof DC Lights

In the ever frequent hikes of all prices, we should find all ways to conserve cost. One major cost in everyone’s home is electricity cost and I am intending to conserve as much as possible.

We are staying in a technological trap that utilizes electricity everywhere we go. Take a minute to look around you and NOW simply imagine a black out.

This “hack” is not new, many people who wanted to light up altar in remote locations had done this before.

The photo above is the source of the electricity, a 12Volts DC battery

The LED lights managed to light up my toilet, bright enough to read a book.

Using Solar Cells to charge those batteries, we can be assured to have a cheaper bills in future! You can also use inverters (DC to AC) to charge your handphones, MP3 Players and laptops or simply to power your electric fans!

    Emergency Lighting…

You’ve probably heard about the 6-day blackout in New York by now. With record temperatures set in Europe and North America this summer, power grids will once again be pushed close to their capacity, leading to possibly more blackouts to come (un…

Yeah, but, currently, the capital for solar cells system is relatively expensive than the existing sources of electricity.

According to your calculation, you assume we use 1KW for the full 8 hours which is not really true.

Your calculation is the same given by Shell Solar Singapore and had tried to “advice” me NOT to buy ANY SOLAR PV Modules.

The cost maybe very stunning if you calculate the TOTAL COST for a TOTAL REPLACEMENT of your “CURRENT” energy consumption that might includes air-cons, fridge, wastage on aquarium lights, 24 hours running server or pc and some other lower efficient electrical appliances. Combined with bad habits of wastage of electricity you can effectively RULE OUT PV MODULE.

However, if I ask you when OIL PRICE increase to $150 per barrel and your electricity in the 4 digit range…by then…is YOUR CALCULATION be accurate? Maybe, you cannot even find any MORE STOCKS TO BUY!!.

I upgrade my PV Modules over a period of few months and yet to be completed…and will wire it up slowly together so it does not immediately cost me a fortune.

Imagine a black out NOW, some LED lights and DC to AC powered fans will be nice.

By the way, you have a nice blog ^_^
