India: Diesel shortage due to increase in demand

Public sector oil companies today attributed the diesel shortage in the city to the “abnormal increase in demand”, further compounded by the power cuts imposed in the past one week.

Despite anticipating a growth of about 12 to 15 per cent over the previous year’s sale in the corresponding period, the sale of diesel during the current month has gone up to 30 per cent in the entire state, and 32 per cent for Bangalore in particular, said B Ashok, Indian Oil, Karnatka General Manager and State Level Coordinator for oil industry, in a statement.

The demand for more oil and energy will be enormous in the coming future when the world goes into oil depletion “state”. It’s time to think alternative energy and sustainability asap otherwise there are not going back to the modern times supported by cheap oil.
