Lhasa in Crisis…

I had just been informed by my friend that Lhasa (Tibet) are going through a violent protest and riots last Friday with China deploying heavy military and riot police presence to curb the surging violence.
Cars were set on fire, looting, buildings were on fire, internet cut off, phones cut off, electricity cut off, only water and cooking gas is working. The popular video sites youtube are blocked in China as reported in the "The Times Of India " News Website.

With the video above, I can predict the coming weeks will be crucial for China to make their move for either peace or total disaster. The coming 2008 Olympic suppose to bring economic boost to China but Tibet uses it to show to the world that they want freedom...
I often thinks what is freedom? Is freedom means peace and prosperity? Is freedom means to do whatever they want and have no rules? What is real freedom? Independence from China? If that happened and the new leader happened to be a puppet or dictator...then what?
Maybe it's because China now are going to amend their image in human rights to show to the world that they are not abusing their citizens only to be rebuked totally by the people. How bad is it there? What is the problems they face daily? I wondered...
Are they hungry? Angry? Frustrated? Sad? Desperate? Sick? Ignored? oppressed? Bullied? Frighten? Fearful? Jobless? Pressured? Poor? Forced? What do they really want?
What is your view why and what really happened in Tibet and what you think they need? What kind of suffering did they go through to be so angry? Do comments please.

I haven’t really study why…but do check out this link.

In my article, I did ask why does they want independence and riot…all these are to gain attention of the politicians to make changes.
Singapore are unique as we have a race of intellectual people that knows the consequence of gaining a “black mark” in the police records. It’s harder to find jobs and it’s cut throat market out there.
For people of Tibet, they had been cut off from the rest of the world for very long and only recently been connected via railway to other parts of China. They had been living sustainability on their own until now.
Probably because China businesses had expanded to their “territory” and sells things cheaper forcing the locals out of their businesses.
This is similar to the big giant company “Walmart” coming into a rural town and force those small shops to go out of business due to high competition.
The big corporation can import goods more cheaply in bulk and afford to withstand economic shocks better. Big corporation can lay off manpower and cut wastage but small business means to go into credit and debt.
When the local cat’s territory livelihood are threatened or intruded, any local cat will fight for their territory fiercely or force to exile to other locations or die.
What looks like the Tibet had exile to India…China in another hand is not happy to see any part of their country to break off.
If any one state gained independence, the rest of the states might just break into small pieces and gets weaken. They might go to war just to prevent any part of China to gain independence.
That is why Taiwan is an issue lately with President Chen previously pushing for independence and trying to get a seat at the United Nations but unable since China already a member.
If Tibet gain independence, Taiwan will push for similar tactics and gain independence as well…which is not good.
In a simple explanation, if someone suddenly comes to you and say…you belong to him and must follow his rules and instructions…will you agreed to that willingly without a fight?
Unfortunately that someone is China…a global superpower.
