Simon, describe the word ‘Inflation’ using your own words and think of a few examples of our daily life.

Chris, please do not comment on this at all.

  • Simon Tay

Inflation is when the value of your money shrinks overtime as cost of living goes up.

eg. food prices, electricity prices, oil prices, etc.

    Research on Hyper-Inflation in Zimbabwe

  • Chris

Inflation – The rate at which the general level of prices for goods and services is rising, and, subsequently, purchasing power is falling.

Inflation is defined as a sustained increase in the general level of prices for goods and services. It is measured as an annual percentage increase. As inflation rises, every dollar you own buys a smaller percentage of a good or service.

The value of a dollar does not stay constant when there is inflation. The value of a dollar is observed in terms of purchasing power, which is the real, tangible goods that money can buy. When inflation goes up, there is a decline in the purchasing power of money. For example, if the inflation rate is 2% annually, then theoretically a $1 pack of gum will cost $1.02 in a year. After inflation, your dollar can’t buy the same goods it could beforehand.

I won’t comment at all bluegal, just that after reading the link,i don’t think we are lacking of water at the moment. We have more than enough.

  • Simon Tay

    Well said Chris.

As for the link about water investment…different countries encounters different situations on clean drinkable water availability.

Fresh water on mainland China is getting hard to come by when many are polluted by their industrial chemical and for Australia are having frequent drought during the summer causing massive crop loss.

Water is essential to life and definitely very precious. For Singapore where I stay, we are blessed with equatorial climate to bring bountiful rain but still will suffer without the huge import of raw water from our neighbor Malaysia.

problems with water investing not really on the water as commodity but the technology behind the purification of water from non-drinkable version (sea water, sewage etc)

I believe the world will soon fight wars not only for oil but for water as well.

  • chris

From my point of view, oil is still the number one resource that we must have. Without oil, there will be no purification of water. The world will not run out of seawater, as long as we have energy to convert seawater, sewage water, drain water, air, to drinking water,we will be alright.

  • bluegal

Let’s not argue over this matter. We all have our own views on this. We can stock up water but not oil. My aim is to stock up one carton of drinking water every 2 weeks.

  • Simon Tay

    Dear all,

Kindly don’t argue about each other’s actions :)

Blugal, yes it’s great to stock up some but not many water supply as these might not last forever.

Yes, dear Chris…I rejected one comment of yours. Water from tap can be drink because huge amount of 100% imported natural gas generated 80% of Singapore’s electricity that powered the water supply purification in Singapore. We may not get “clean” water supply if Indonesia cut our natural gas suddenly just like Russia did to Ukraine recently due to “price dispute”.

In any event of Malaysia cut the raw water supply from the causeway, the current available rain water supply may not be sufficient for all people living in Singapore.

Any shortages means a higher price tag in the future. Rationing in the national level is last defense but a tough one to swallow.

I will suggest a complete distillation kit to distill drain water or rain water to bundle into your stock of drinking water.

Do remember that stagnant water that is exposed or not bottled up is likely to breed mosquito so do not stock up in pails or non-sealed bottles.

I haven’t stock up yet…but my friend did found out a way to use the sun reflection to boil drain water and distill it using custom made glasswares that can withstand high temperatures.

  • chris

Why not you try drinking the distilled drain water that your friend is experimenting and tell me if are still alright.

  • Simon Tay

    hey…that’s a good idea :)
His idea is to distill sea water.

I ever saw a youtube video about survival if lost in the wilderness.

they boil the ground rain water using a plastic bottle…after boiled it can be safe to drink as most germs are destroyed after boiling.

I may need to more research on this and see if there is a more efficient method to make clean water.

  • chris

Keep on researching, I am sure you will discover something somedays. You have to believe in yourself.

  • bluegal

When is your new blog starting ? I hope to see more variety topics been discuss besides energy crisis.

  • Simon Tay
