A leaked report prepared for the German government has warned that global oil supplies could peak as early as this year, triggering widespread market failures and a shift in the balance of world power.
The report, which was obtained by the German newspaper Spiegel, was produced by analysts at the military think tank Bundeswehr Transformation Centre and warns that the peaking of oil supplies will result in numerous global challenges.
The military think tank are studying into Peak Oil and ways to “mitigate” the problem, I believe all Governments are scratching their big heads trying to cut energy wastage & continue to maintain their country’s “wealth”.
I had once went to a discussion forum organized by the Government on sustainability in my country, the final question mark is “Who will foot the bills on green technology?”
In Singapore, the housing are mainly high rise flats which many can argue that it cannot be sustainable due to the fact that if all the usable surface of the flat are installed with solar panels & calculating the surface area, frequent cloud cover, low efficiency of solar panels can probably only power enough electricity to service maybe 10 to 20 households per flat.
The problem is there are HUNDREDS of households per flat.
We must think of ways to cut down on wastage of energy and sometimes radical ideas must be given a chance to surface.
What kind of renewable energy can be converted into electricity & pump right back into the electric grid?
- Nature – Wind Power, Sun Power, Water Power, Wave Power, Thermo Power
- Nuclear Power
- Radical harvesting of kinetic energy from human – Pedal power
- Bio-Fuel – debatable
- Others
Let’s examine the HDB flats in Singapore, it’s high rise with some up to 30 levels high and many are already converted to LED lamps to conserve energy and even use smart timer to switch on only at the right time.
Even with all the roof top converted to solar panels, the most you get is a fully renewable energy power public lighting & lift but individual household’s electrical bills still goes higher during peak oil crisis.
My proposal to all governments is to give OWNERSHIP Shares to building renewable energy on all HDB rooftops & any government owned buildings.
These shares are like stocks can be traded but the returns only calculated on how much wattage the solar panels generated minus Cost of solar panels, installation & maintenance per 30 minutes.
The wattage returns in terms of money can be calculated on the spot price of the official electricity market prices based on prevailing marketing demand & supply per 30 minutes.
The higher the electricity prices in the market per watt x power generated by renewable energy minus cost = returns of investment.
Of course the GOVERNMENT can be include in PART of the cost as well as part of the group that ensures the maintenance are done professionally & on par with international standards.
The public investment can fund this major renewable energy project that supports the government to mass import or SELF MANUFACTURE renewable products such as solar panels, wind mills, wave power generator, pedal generator complex, exotic inventions that harvest energy from human interaction and etc.
In return the money earned from power generated can be used to subsidize future cost of electricity that the investor consumes in the future.
This is a win win proposition with slightly LESS profit for the oil & gas industry but ability to reduce dependance on fossil fuels & create at least 20% to 50% self sustainability for the whole country.
Unfortunately, big corporations might want to capitalized on this & raise all cost of everything related to this project so HIGH that nobody can see the returns of their investment within 10 years time.
I can say SHAME ON THESE CORPORATIONS that just want profits but in the end still goes under because there will be blood in the streets when there’s a global fuel shortage, food shortage riots will rise and major banks will be emptied of money that worth nothing compared to a piece of bread.
The riches of the world now are slowly waking up and find themselves donating huge amount of money to the needy but what the people need is NOT money but a way to self sustain properly.
If you are one of the multi-millionaires out there, kindly build key renewable energy infrastructure for ANY BIG CITIES that are still enjoying “cheap” electricity from fossil fuel.
Maybe by the time the implication of peak oil arrives with major oil wars & massive riots by the poor & suffering…many may just regret not doing enough to mitigate this obvious crisis call Peak Oil.
The sooner we all realized that, the better.
